Georgi Rumenov enters the 2018 season promoted to assistant coach of the women’s Tennis team.
As a graduate assistant under head coach Katarina Petrovic during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, Rumenov helped coach the team to its first C-USA championship title. The Panthers won 17 matches and finished ranked No. 41 in ITA rankings, the highest final ITA rankings since 2009. Rumenov coached Andrea Lazaro, FIU’s first All-American, National Champion and highest rank player in school history. He repared Lazaro in her record breaking performance at ITA Reginal Championship (2/7), where she finished ranked third. In addition, Rumenov assisted in the success of duo; Maryna Veksler and Ulyana Grib who reached Top 10 in the ITA rankings, which was another school first…Helped bring in the 2018 recruiting class which ranked Top 10.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Rumenov has played on the ATP Professional Tennis Tour. During his career, Rumenov has registered an ATP singles ranking of 390 and a doubles ranking of 374. He has competed on the professional level for over 10 years. Most recently, he claimed three championships and made two more finals in 2015, winning the Portugal F5 single and doubles crown and the Portugal F6 and F9 singles titles. He also made the finals of the Portugal F2 and Spain F7 tournaments.
Rumenov was a four-year letter winner at Armstrong State University (Savannah, Georgia), where he helped ASU to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championship appearances (2012, 2013), winning the 2012 crown. A two-time First-Team All-American (2012, 2013), Rumenov was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year in both 2012 and 2013, while garnering PBC First-Team All-Conference accolades (singles and doubles), PBC MVP honors (singles and doubles) and ASU MVP recognition (singles and doubles) as the Pirates won back-to-back PBC regular season and tournament titles. Named team captain in 2013, Rumenov was awarded the ITA Senior Player of the Year award.
Prior to his time at ASU, Rumenov claimed six doubles titles on the ATP Tour (2009, 2010), while winning the 2005 Orange Bowl Championship.
A member of the Dean’s List, he graduated from ASU with a degree in general economics in 2014.
