Meet FIU Football's First General Manager: Jose Jefferson (SI)
Jose Jefferson was hired in January 2025 and is in his first season as the General Manager and Director of Player Personnel for the FIU Football program.
Jefferson arrives at FIU after serving as the Director of Team Operations for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL for the last two seasons (2022-23). He also assisted with Player Personnel. He has owned and operated the “The College Gridiron Showcase” since 2014 and is the event's Executive Director – which is the largest major all-star event of the college football postseason and an NFL sanctioned event.
Jefferson’s previous professional coaching experience includes stints as Head Coach with the Lincoln Lightning (IFL & AF2), Lincoln Capitols (NIFL), Sioux City Bandits (UIF - where he coached Coach Willie Simmons) and Colorado Crush (IFL). Jefferson has a career coaching record of 85-48 in indoor football. Jefferson also served as Director of Player Personnel of the Sioux Falls Storm (IFL) in which the Storm won the IFL Championship.
In the college ranks, Jefferson coached for five seasons as an assistant at Nebraska Wesleyan (Running Backs), one season at Midland University (Defensive Backs) and two seasons at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (Running Backs/Associate Head Coach). He also previously was Director of Vertical and Horizontal Jumps for the Track and Field Team at Viterbo University for four seasons.
In the high school ranks, Jefferson coached for 5 seasons as an assistant at Omaha Westside High school as well as basketball and track. Jefferson was also Head Coach at Lincoln High for two seasons.
Jefferson played five years of professional football. He attended camp with the Cardinals and the Chiefs of the NFL before playing with the Arizona Rattlers for two seasons (1993-94) and the Iowa Barnstormers for three seasons (1995-97), where he teamed up with NFL legend Kurt Warner.
Jefferson attended the University of South Dakota on a track and field scholarship. Ranked as an All-American Jumper was a school and conference record holder in the Triple Jump. All-Conference performer in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, 55 Meters, 100 meters, and 4 x100. Graduated with a Business Degree. Jefferson is from Omaha, NE and attended Omaha Creighton Prep High School.
