MIAMI (Aug. 12, 2015) – During the 2016 season, Entercom's WAXY AM 790 The Ticket will be the official radio broadcast home for Panthers' football FIU Executive Director for Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia announced on Friday.

790 The Ticket will provide full coverage and LIVE broadcasts which will include both pre- and post-game analysis for all games in the upcoming 2016 season.

The 2016 FIU football season will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 1, when the Panthers host the Indiana Hoosiers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

"790 The Ticket is the premier all-sports radio station in South Florida and we are thrilled to call it the official home of FIU football this season," Garcia said.

"We are proud to partner with Florida International University to bring local fans the college football experience they care about," said Douglas Abernethy, Regional Vice President and General Manager, Entercom Miami.  "Our station is the radio destination of choice for Miami sports fan and this partnership with the Panthers underscores our commitment to delivering the sports content we know our fans are looking for."

In the broadcast booth for FIU football will be Josh Appel, on play-by-play, and Wes Carroll with the color analysis. Along with live game coverage, the duo will conduct a 30-minute pre-game show, halftime interviews and 30-minute post-game show.

Appel has been the play-by-play broadcaster of the Philadelphia Phillies minor league affiliate, the Clearwater Threshers for the past three years. Awarded the 2016 Jim Nantz Award (nation's most outstanding collegiate sports broadcaster, as voted on by leading members of the sportscasting industry), Appel is a recent graduate of USF where he was sports director and student radio play-by-play voice for football, basketball and baseball on Bulls Radio. Prior to attending USF, Appel began his broadcasting career at Cypress Bay High School calling football games, while interning on the "Dan LeBatard Show" on 790 The Ticket.

Carroll returns to booth for FIU for the second-straight year. A 2011 graduate of FIU, Carroll has been calling high school football in South Florida for the past six years. Carroll, who earned his Master of Science in recreation and sports management from FIU in 2013, played for the Panthers for two seasons (2010 and 2011). He guided FIU to back-to-back bowl appearances, including the programs first bowl victory; a 34-32 win over Toledo in the 2010 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. He ranks in the top five in a number of FIU records, passing for nearly 5,000 yards in just two seasons under center.
