The talk is just about over as FIU and Temple are less than 48 hours from kickoff to the Gasparilla Bowl. The Panthers seek their second bowl win in three tries. FIU goes against their former defensive coordinator and current Temple coach Geoff Collins. FIU is also aiming for a program record ninth win on the season.
This is the first-ever meeting between FIU and Temple, who is from the American Athletic Conference. The Panthers went 1-1 against the AAC this season defeating Tulane and losing to Central Florida.

1.
How did Temple get it together and reach the postseason?
MB: I think there are a variety of aspects that changed the direction of the 2017 Temple Football season. Whether it's getting more time to gel, adapting to Collins' coaching habits, or playing conference opponents (where the Owls knew they needed to step up), all of these areas are important. But, I think it's clear that the change at quarterback made the biggest impact. In the earlier portion of this season, Logan Marchi was not able to establish a cohesive offense. He had some skill but, lacked the "game-changing" ability that this team so desperately needed. Frank Nutile, on the other hand, played with more confidence and charisma. His ability to lead the offense has been very impressive over the past few weeks. Quite frankly, if Marchi was the QB for the entirety of this season, I don't believe the Owls would be playing in a bowl game. Thus, Nutile has been the biggest proponent of the Owls' recent success.

What does Temple do best on offense?
MB: Temple has a relatively balanced offense. Their quarterback, running-back, and wide receiver units are all above average. But, what makes Temple dangerous is one man: sophomore WR Isaiah Wright. Wright's dynamic play-making abilities have made a big impact this season. His open-field speed and agility are quite impressive. Plus, they've used him in the wildcat formation several times this season. Thus, he's (most likely) the offensive MVP in my book.
3.
Collins is known for defense. What has the Owls defense been like in his first year?
MB: Temple's defense isn't what it used to be. With the loss of current Pittsburgh Steeler Tyler Matakevich and current Arizona Cardinal Haason Reddick over the past two seasons, they've lost a bit of their previously admired ferocity. But, their secondary has been consistent over the past three years. Led by Sean Chandler and Delvon Randall, they've been able to provide ample protection against high-powered pass attacks. This year Randall has four interceptions and is most likely the superior defensive back. Both of which have possible NFL capabilities.
4.
How has Temple taken to Collins?
MB: Temple has been spoiled for the past four years under Matt Rhule (now head coach at Baylor University). Thus, when Rhule left the decision to bring in Geoff Collins was mostly admired. A defensive-minded coach who has several years of experience. At the beginning of this season, many were doubting Collins's ability to make the necessary changes to his team. His "coach-speak" also frustrated many media members. But, for the most part, Collins has been a welcome addition to North Broad Street. His players love him, the fans admire the "mayhem", and he's hoping to bring Temple a bowl victory for the first time since 2011.

Your thoughts on the Gasparilla Bowl?
MB: Temple has managed to build some momentum at the tail-end of this season, winning three out of their last four games. Their ability to utilize a balanced offensive attack and consistent D-line/secondary has proved to be a valuable aspect of the squad. If Temple can control the time of possession contest and dominate the battle of the trenches, then they should win. But, this team won't downplay FIU's capabilities. Temple knows what it's like to lose in winnable match-ups, so they won't take the Panthers lightly. All that being said, I'll take Temple to win 34-26.
