FIU plays a pair of intrastate foes in midweek games beginning Tuesday.
The Panthers (10-11) host Florida Gulf Coast (14-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday night from Infinity Insurance Park. On Wednesday, FIU travels to Stetson for a game with the Hatters. The first pitch from Melching Field in DeLand is at 6:30 p.m.
FIU is coming off winning one of three games at Charlotte as the Panthers opened Conference USA play. Last Saturday, the Panthers got six solid innings from
Logan Allen in a 12-6 win over the 49ers.
Derek Cartaya and
Austin Shenton each went 3 for 5 in the victory.
Cartaya is 10 for his last 21 and leads the Panthers with a .390 average. Shenton was 10 for 23 last week and is hitting .350.
Jose Garcia hit three home runs last week and leads the Panthers with eight round-trippers on the season.
FGCU has lost three of its last four games, including dropping two of three games to Rutgers last weekend.
Gage Morey leads the Eagles with a .375 average. Jay Hayes is second on the team with a .368 clip. Kohl Gilmore has hit a team-leading seven home runs.
Last season FIU swept a two-game series from FGCU. The Panthers won 12-5 in Fort Myers and 7-0 in Miami.
FGCU leads the all-time series with FIU, 8-7.
Stetson (17-3) has won 17 of its first 20 games this season. The Hatters took three of four games from Rhode Island last weekend in DeLand.
Brooks Wilson leads the Hatters with a .350 average. Jacob Koos is hitting .333, which is second on the Hatters team.
Stetson has hit only seven home runs this season but the Hatters are scoring six runs per game.
FIU swept a two-game series at Stetson last season. The Panthers defeated the Hatters 9-0 and 10-6 in mid-March.
Stetson leads the all-time series with FIU, 59-43.
