MIAMI – FIU Head Football Coach
Butch Davis announced today that rising redshirt junior quarterback
Maurice Alexander will move to wide receiver for the 2018 season.
"After praying about it, I was thinking about the team and how I could help in different ways," Alexander said. "I'm at a point in my career where I want to be out there helping us win. I can help multiple ways on special teams and playing receiver. I know with the ability I have and the speed I have, I could really impact my team at receiver."
In two seasons at FIU, Alexander has accumulated 903 yards of total offense. He's rushed for 116 yards and thrown for 787 yards. He completed 69-of-126 passes and threw for two touchdowns.
A local Miami product, Alexander led Booker T. Washington to a perfect 15-0 record and the state championship as a senior in 2014. He completed the perfect season, throwing for 3,060 yards and 32 touchdowns while also rushing for 466 yards and seven touchdowns. He was named TECO Dade County Player of the Year in 2015 as well as Class 4A First-Team All-State, First-Team All-Dade County and the Booker T. Washington Offensive MVP.
"Maurice is a very good athlete," Davis said. "Without question, he can help our team with this position change in several ways. I love his unselfish attitude that he wants to play and contribute to the team."
