Football is Back!

Two days of spring practice are in the books and one thing is undeniable: excitement is in the air. Football is back, and with it come many changes for the FIU Panthers. At the forefront of the changes are FIU's two new coordinators, Geoff Collins and Scott Satterfield.

Coach Collins comes to FIU from UCF it's evident that his enthusiasm and passion for the game is rubbing off on his players. The FIU defenders are flying around the field making noise with their play and with their "roll call." Led by All-Sun Belt selection Anthony Gaitor, coach Collins' defensive unit is eager to make a name for itself.

On the other side of the ball, coach Satterfield is leading an immensely talented group of receivers and runningbacks that will be led this year by a new face. With Paul McCall now gone, and headed to Mars, there will be a new signal caller for the Panthers. Several players are in competition for playing time at QB, including Wayne Younger, Wesley Carroll and Chris Schirripa. Another new face on the offense is running back Jeremiah Harden. No longer having to work with the scout team, Harden is ready to make an impact in the FIU backfield.

With new coaches, new players and renewed enthusiasm, spring ball for FIU is just getting started. The Panthers will be back at practice this weekend at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday as they don shells for the first time this year.
