Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Dec. 10, 2011) --- Despite a pair of 20-point performances by sophomore Phil Taylor and senior DeJuan Wright, the FIU men's basketball team (2-6) fell to the Texas Wesleyan Rams (7-1), 72-68, during the first day of the Etech Lumberjack Classic on the campus of Stephen F. Austin.
Taylor, who recorded 19 points in the first half, notched a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the floor. Wright posted his second-straight 20-point game, scoring 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and 9-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line. Wright also led all players with nine rebounds.
The Panthers shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the floor and converted 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from 3-point range. The Rams, who were led by Ronnie Moss (25 points), shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the floor and was 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
The Rams held a 32-29 edge in the rebounding category, while the Panthers forced 21 turnovers and registered 14 steals. Senior Jeremy Allen, who ranks in the top 10 nationally in steals, recorded a game-high four steals on the afternoon.
FIU will take on Stephen F. Austin in the final game of the 2011 Etech Lumberjack Classic on Sunday, Dec. 11. Game time is 5:15 p.m. ET.
