FIU Falls 3-2 in Battle of the Panthers

ATLANTA (Sept. 18, 2011) - The FIU men's soccer team (3-3-2) dropped a 3-2 decision on the road to Georgia State (5-1-1) Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.

After falling behind 2-0, freshman Arnthor Kristinsson scored his first-career goal in the 70th minute when he buried a ball into the upper-right corner after the ball deflected to him off a throw in. Six minutes later GSU extended its lead to 3-1.

The Panthers cut the lead to 3-2 when FIU freshman Quentin Albrecht scored his team-high fourth goal of the year in the 85th minute. Albrecht chased down a ball from senior Lucas Di Croce and shot towards the right side of the goal past a sliding GSU keeper.

Although FIU was able to out-shoot Georgia State, 24-10, the Panthers couldn't overcome an early two-goal deficit and ultimately fell, 3-2.

FIU will look to rebound from this tough loss on Friday, Sept. 23, when it faces the Marshall Thundering Herd to kick-off Conference-USA action. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla.
