MIAMI (August 6, 2012) – Practice moved up a half-hour on Monday due to inclement weather forecasted for later this morning. The team, practicing in shells for the second straight day, was able to complete a full session without any weather delays. The Panthers will return to Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium for the preseason's fifth practice, Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
After practice, Head Coach Mario Cristobal spoke to the media…

We're assessing how we're progressing as a program. We've always had the mentality, but now we have to apply the mindset. I think these guys did a great job today just challenging themselves and each other. The enthusiasm has been excellent. The fact that we had to go 45 minutes early at the drop of a hat and that everybody was hustling. That is the mentality and attitude of a team that wants to be successful.

Shae (Smith) was a last second recruitment. He did not play center. He is a real high IQ guy both football and academic. He's very athletic, very versatile. Since he came here his body has really started changing. He has become a real good squatter. Centers have to be comfortable in that space that is shrunk down next to nothing. Initially, it was a bit of a struggle for him, but he has invested so much time in it. I can't tell you the countless hours I see Shae Smith in and out of our facility just watching extra film.

At the same time, Giancarlo Revilla continues to up his game. He's at about 290 pounds now. He has been a more effective guy in the running game.

These next few days we'll do a lot of crossover training. For example, Tuesday we'll teach all of the offensive guys how to tackle – legitimate form tackling.
