MIAMI (Oct. 8, 2014) – FIU has officially released its men's basketball schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 season. In his second season as head coach,
Anthony Evans' squad will open the season on Nov. 14 versus Florida College.
FIU's schedule will feature 12 homes games on Lime Court at FIU Arena, three of those games being non-conference foes. The Panthers also will face Louisville, a squad that reached the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament. In addition, FIU will take on cross-state rival Florida Gulf Coast and will play in a tournament hosted by USC Upstate during the Thanksgiving holiday.
FIU opens the season on Friday, Nov. 14 with a matchup against Florida College on Lime Court at FIU Arena. The following Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Panthers will hit the road and travel to Deland, Fla., to take on the Stetson Hatters before returning home on Nov. 21 to face the Lions of Florida Memorial.
The Panthers' next four games will be on the road, with the first coming at Georgia Southern on Nov. 24. From there, the Panthers will head to USC Upstate's campus, taking part in the Spartanburg Marriot Upstate Classic Nov. 27-29. On Thanksgiving, FIU will face USC Upstate, followed by Wright State on the 28th and Cal State Fullerton on the 29th. All games will be viewable on ESPN3.
The Panthers return to campus for a home contest on Dec. 2 versus Kennesaw State, a game that will conclude the Panthers' home non-conference slate.
Following the Kennesaw State game, FIU will begin an eight-game road trip, starting with Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center on Dec. 5. The Panthers will then look for their second-straight win over Florida Gulf Coast when they travel cross-state on Dec. 14. FIU will make a trip to the northeast on Dec. 18, as it will face the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds at the Barclay's Center. The trip up north will continue on Dec. 21 at Hartford. The Panthers will have an eight-day break before heading to Florida A&M on Dec. 29 to close out the non-conference slate.
FIU begins its second season in Conference USA with five of its first seven games on the road. A three-game road test to open the league slate takes the Panthers to Boca Raton, Fla., on Jan. 4 for a meeting with rival Florida Atlantic. A mid-week matchup with Middle Tennessee (Jan. 8) awaits the Panthers before closing out the road trip at UAB on Sunday, Jan. 10.
Marshall awaits FIU for the Panthers' conference home opener on Thursday, Jan. 15 before FIU welcomes former Sun Belt foe Western Kentucky on Jan. 17, as part of the Hilltoppers first year in C-USA. FIU will close January with a pair of road games at Old Dominion on Jan. 29 and at Charlotte on Jan. 31.
Three-straight will then be held on Lime Court at FIU Arena, starting with FIU's second pairing against Florida Atlantic on Feb. 3. The Panthers close out the workweek with UTSA on Feb. 5, before welcoming UTEP to Miami on Feb. 7.
The Panthers will face a strong test on the road when it faces two of last season's regular season co-champions. First, a Feb. 12 meeting at Southern Miss. will air on FSN. Preseason favorite LA Tech will then be waiting for FIU in Ruston, La., on Feb. 14. The Panthers head back home to host Rice for a midweek showdown on Feb. 19, and close out February's home slate with North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 21. Two final games in February take FIU to Marshall on Feb. 26 and WKU on Feb. 28.
FIU closes out its regular season campaign at home for two games the first week of March, starting with Middle Tennessee on March 5. Senior day will be held Saturday, March 7 versus UAB before the Panthers gear up for the C-USA Tournament, set to take place in Birmingham, Ala., March 11-14.
