MIAMI (March 25, 2014) – The FIU women's tennis team (7-6) swept the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (3-8), 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
Originally scheduled for 10:00 a.m., the match was pushed back to a 1:00 p.m. start with singles action leading things off. FIU came out of the gates strong, taking all six singles match in straight-sets. Freshman
Tina Mohorcic made quick work of Lindsay Weideman, 6-0, 6-0. Senior
Giulietta Boha followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jacqueline Baude. Sophomores
Carlotta Orlando and
Aleksandra Trifunovic picked up victories three and four, respectively. Orlando defeated Alex Tran, 6-0, 6-2, and Trifunovic downed Hylan Miller, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman
Valentina Briceno defeated Tiffany Hottman, 6-2, 6-4, while freshman
Nina Nagode closed out singles play with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over Molly Matricardi.
The Panthers continued their dominance taking all three doubles matches for the 7-0 win. Orlando and Briceno defeated Tran and Miller, 8-4. Nagode and Mohorcic defeated Hottman and Matricardi, 8-2, and Boha and Trifunovic defeated Baude and Kenzie Hill, 8-0.
The Panthers will next host Brown on Friday, March 28, from the FIU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
