LUBBOCK, Texas — FIU's tennis program battled to a 4-1 defeat against 25th-ranked Stanford in the First Round of the 2025 NCAA Championships, hosted by Texas Tech, on Friday afternoon. \
The Panthers matched up with the Cardinal, out of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), in the opening round and started strong with a doubles' point victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the match. Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Valery Gynina started FIU with a 6-3 doubles win on Court 2 to give the Panthers early momentum. Following a defeat on Court 1, FIU secured the doubles point with a hard-fought 7-5 victory on Court 3 from Aleksandra Simeva and Dana Baidaulet.
In singles, FIU kept up with Stanford, but eventually fell in the first four singles matches to complete. The Panthers' season concludes with its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and third-straight Conference USA (CUSA) title, all under head coach Katarina Petrovic.
