FIU Women’s Tennis Wins Second-Straight; Downs LMU, 4-3

LOS ANGELES (March 8, 2014) – The FIU women's tennis team (4-3) defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions (6-7), 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.
 
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead, taking 2-of-3 doubles matches. Freshmen Tina Mohorcic and Nina Nagode fell to Miya Jin and Jessica Perez, 8-2; however, sophomore Carlotta Orlando and freshman Valentina Briceno defeated Ellie Grossman and Lauri Mueller, 8-4, and senior Giulietta Boha and sophomore Aleksandra Trifunovic downed Reka Rohonyi and Kristine Kouyoumjian, 8-5, to claim the doubles point.
 
In singles play, FIU extended its lead to 2-0 as Mohorcic defeated Mueller, 6-4, 6-3. LMU got on the board as Jin defeated Trifunovic, 6-4, 6-4. The Lions tied the match at 2-2 with a 7-6, 6-2 win by Grossman over Briceno. The Panthers regained the lead, 3-2, as Boha defeated Rohonyi, 6-0, 7-6. Orlando registered the match-clinching point with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-0 win over Kouyoumjian. Nagode dropped her singles contest to Perez, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
 
FIU next host UNC Greensboro on Thursday, March 13. First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is set for noon.
