Greg Moss Added to @FIUFootball Coaching Staff

MIAMI (Feb. 19, 2015) – Head Coach Ron Turner announced on Thursday the addition of former FIU standout Greg Moss to his coaching staff. Moss will coach the cornerbacks. Turner also announced that Assistant Coach Kort Shankweiler will coach the quarterbacks and wide receivers and Assistant Coach Jason Brooks will coach the tight ends.

"First-and-foremost Greg has a tremendous passion for FIU football," Turner said. He has been with us for the past few years and has done a tremendous job. He is a driven, self-motivated individual, who is an excellent teacher and communicator. We are thrilled to have him on our staff coaching our cornerbacks."

Moss served as a defensive quality control assistant for the Panthers for the past three years, primarily working with the defensive backs. Among his many duties, Moss prepared film breakdown, developed opponent receiver reports, assisted with the offensive scout team, game day passing charts and self-scouting reports.

"FIU has done a lot for me as a student and as a coach, developing in this business," Moss said. "I feel like I owe everything to this institution, to these players, to this staff for believing in me. This place will always be dear to me and it has since I first started. I've always loved this program since 2001 when I first stepped on this campus. To come here in that type of capacity and then to be in this role now is a dream come true."

Moss, who starred in FIU's defensive backfield from 2002-04, finished his professional football career in 2008. He played two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2007-08) and Ottawa Renegades (2005-06). He was a starter for Winnipeg's 2007 Grey Cup Championship team. With Ottawa, he was the team's Rookie of the Year and started all 18 regular season games.

Following his playing career, Moss got into coaching, first as an assistant coach for Nova High School in Davie (2008-11). He was an assistant defensive coach working with the defensive backs and special teams returners. He then moved over to Miramar High School where he was the Defensive Backs Coach.

As an FIU student-athlete, Moss was a Dean's List honoree and defensive team captain. In 2003, he was voted FIU Special Teams Player of the Year and earned NCAA I-AA Special Teams Player of the Week during September, 2003. He would go onto to establish nearly all of the school's records for kickoff and punt returns.

Moss earned his bachelor's degree in physical education/sports management in 2005 from FIU and received a master's in sports administration in 2013 from St. Thomas.

Moss and his wife Shaun have two daughters, Sai and Taylor.

Kort Shankweiler
Shankweiler spent the last two seasons coaching the tight ends for the Panthers. Shankweiler came to FIU in 2013 after spending three seasons as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Central Michigan University.

He was a four-year letterman for East Carolina, lining up at quarterback, fullback and tight end during his career and helping lead the Pirates to the 2006 Papajohns.com Bowl.

Jason Brooks
Brooks was the defensive backs coach for FIU during the past two years. Brooks came to FIU after spending the previous four seasons in the National Football League with the Super Bowl XLVII Champion Baltimore Ravens,

With Baltimore, Brooks served under Head Coach John Harbaugh as an assistant to the offense, offensive quality control and offensive assistant. His responsibilities also included the coordination and coaching of the Ravens defensive scout team, assisting with the special teams scout squad, film breakdown and self-scouting reports. As well as other duties assigned, Brooks worked first-hand in the coaching of the wide receivers in 2009 and 2011 and running backs in 2010 and 2012.
