Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Southern Miss, 5-2

MIAMI (March 10, 2015) – The FIU women's tennis team (5-5) knocked off Conference USA foe Southern Miss (7-5), 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
FIU took an early 1-0 lead, as the duo of senior Yana Koroleva and sophomore Nina Nagode defeated Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen, 6-3, while junior Carlotta Orlando and Kaitlin Brozovich topped Elena Roca and Kathrin Waidner, 6-3.
 
The Panthers tacked on four more points to take a 5-0 lead, with singles wins by Orlando (6-1, 6-3 over Cludia Castella), Koroleva (6-3, 6-2 over Drescher), sophomore Valentia Briceno (6-4, 6-3 over Roca), and Nagode (6-3, 6-0 over Karina Gurgenyan).
 
The Eagles claimed two points as freshman Nerma Caluk fell to Lisa Schneider, 7-6 (5), 6-2, and Brozovich fell to Alex Kitchen, 6-3, 7-5.
 
The Panthers will next host WKU on Thursday, March 12. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
