Game One RecapBOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- After a four-run seventh by FIU to take the lead, WKU came back to score three in the bottom of the seventh to win game two of a Saturday doubleheader, 5-4, in Conference USA softball action at the WKU Softball Complex. FIU is now 17-14, 3-2 in C-USA games. WKU is now 10-12, 2-0 in conference.

The Panthers doubled their hit total with five in the seventh to push across four runs. FIU got three-straight hits with two outs to score the runs. A two-RBI single by center fielder
Gabby Spallone (Miami, Florida / Palmetto HS) gave FIU the lead, and third baseman
Dani Mowry (Cocoa, Florida / Space Coast HS) singled through the middle for the fourth run.

The Lady Toppers answered with a solo homer and two hits, to go with a pair of FIU walks and an infield error to walkoff game two.

WKU scored first after a one-out double in the first, and pitcher Hannah Parker helped out her own cause by driving in the runner for the 1-0 lead.

WKU added an insurance run, though unearned, in the fourth against FIU starter
Megan Kugelmann (Merritt Island, Florida / Cocoa Beach HS) for the 2-0 lead.

Parker got the complete-game win to improve to 6-7. She allowed 10 hits, but no walks. All four runs charged to her were unearned and she finished with six strikeouts.

The loss went to FIU reliever
Rachel Dwyer (Tampa, Florida / Chamberlain HS), whose record is now 2-2. She walked the only batter she faced in the final frame. Â

The two teams will finish the series at 1 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
