Andrea Lazaro Knocks off Ninth-Ranked Player in the Nation at ITA All-American Championship

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 5, 2017) – FIU senior Andrea Lazaro defeated Auburn's Alizee Michaud, 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of the main draw of the 2017 Riviera/ITA All-American Championship, on Thursday afternoon at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

The upset victory over Michaud, the No. 9-ranked player in the country and No. 8 seed in the event's main draw, marked the biggest win in Lazaro's singles career and in FIU tennis history. A native of Barcelona, Spain, Lazaro also defeated other two nationally ranked players during the tournament; No. 61 Stefana Andrei of Louisiana-Monroe and No. 52 Ayan Broomfield of UCLA in the qualifying draw.

Lazaro will play next on Friday, Oct. 5, against California's Olivia Hauger, who was victorious in her first round match, defeating Winthrop's Lauren Proctor. This will be the first meeting between Lazaro and Hauger.
