MIAMI (Oct. 16, 2018) – Former Panther great
Alex McGough made a surprise visit to FIU's football practice on Tuesday, showing his continued support for the program.
"I miss it so much," McGough said when attending practice. "I literally landed just 30 minutes ago and this is the first thing I had to do. I had to come see my guys, my fellow coaches. It's just such a great thing to see the success they're having this season."
McGough capped his FIU career with a school-record 65 touchdown passes and led the Panthers to their third bowl berth in program history. The Tampa, Florida native was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, becoming the first FIU quarterback taken in school history.
"We have a feeling of family here now," McGough said when reflecting on his time at FIU. "I feel like I could come back here in 10 years and still be welcomed. I think it really shows what
Butch Davis and the seniors accomplished last year."
McGough flourished under head coach
Butch Davis in his final season at FIU, throwing for 17 touchdowns and 2,798 yards. The former Panther quarterback was very thankful for his time with the veteran coach.
"There's nothing that I could say that would say 'thank you' enough for what he did for me," McGough said of
Butch Davis. "Now that I am able to come back here and show my respect to him and the team, it is the least I could do."
McGough and the Seattle Seahawks are on a bye week following their trip to London on Sunday. Seattle is currently 3-3 on the year.
