MIAMI (Oct. 19, 2018) – Next up in our Q&A series with FIU student-athletes is football's
James Morgan. The quarterback talks about his transition to FIU, chemistry with his new teammates and his trust in his offensive line.
A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Morgan comes to FIU after spending the first half of his collegiate career at Bowling Green. The graduate transfer has earned multiple accolades so far this season, after throwing for 14 touchdowns and leading FIU to a 4-2 record.
Morgan took time out of his busy schedule to sit down for five questions with FIUSports.com.
Q: What's the biggest difference between Green Bay and Miami?
A: "The weather. Yeah, it's a lot warmer in Miami than it is in Green Bay where I am from. The palm trees here are pretty nice too."
Q: How has the transition to FIU gone?
A: "The players here have made the transition very easy to be honest with you. Coming into this program people were very welcoming to me and really down to work. That's what I was trying to be all about, and it made it really easy for me."
Q: Who do you gel the most with on the team?
A: "When I came here we did things with the whole offense, so I would say I gel with the whole team. We would be out there in the summer just working our tails off and getting reps. I think the fact that we were all working out there made it easy to gel with everyone quickly."
Q: What are some academic goals that you have?
A: "At Bowling Green I got a pre-law degree, so going to law school is something that I want to do if the NFL doesn't pan out. I am in a MPA program for public administration here at FIU and that is focusing on government to get familiar with those sorts of things before becoming a lawyer."
Q: What excites you more, seeing a lineman pick up a blitz or a wide-open receiver?
A: "The receiver getting open excites me more, because I always trust my linemen to pick up the blitz. I know they'll always have my back."
FIU stays home this Saturday as the Panthers continue their C-USA stretch against Rice on Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET. For those still wishing to purchase tickets, click
