HILTON HEAD, South Carolina (Sept. 23 2018)— Women's Tennis Opens Fall play at Hilton Head Island 15K.
Four Panthers were invited to make the trip to South Carolina;
Paulina Bakaite, Sandra Bozinovic, Komala Umarova and
Basak Akbas.
Action begins Monday, September 24th through Sunday, September 30th, and the event is hosted at the Van De Meer Shipyard Resort as a USTA Pro-Circuit Event.
In order to compete in this event, athletes must have a World Ranking.
"It is a good opportunity to start the individual competition so early in the season and build on it," Head coach
Katarina Petrovic said.
The tournament will serve as first action for Bakaite, Umarova and Akbas as Panthers, in their rookie campaign.
"I am very excited for the freshmen. We have been working hard for the last two weeks and our ladies are ready," Petrovic said.
Umarova, an Uzbekistan native, comes in with a WTA ranking of 754 and is slated for the main draw which will take place on Tuesday September 25th.
Bakaite, Akbas and Bozinovic are set to participate in the qualifying rounds which begins on Monday.
