FIU BVB Trio Named to CCSA All-Academic Team

Dorina Klinger, Lina Bernier and Margherita Bianchin all tabbed All-Academic selections.

ATLANTA (April 17, 2019) – FIU beach volleyball standouts Dorina Klinger (Feldkirchen, Austria), Lina Bernier (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Margherita Bianchin (Venice, Italy) have been named to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) All-Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday. FIU is the only CCSA school to have three student-athletes named to the All-Academic Team.

Klinger, a senior, boasts a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) in marketing. She has logged a 14-10 overall dual record, including an impressive 7-3 mark on court two, with nine of the 10 matches at the number two position being played with her sister Ronja. In addition, she has a 2-1 record on court four. Klinger has won two of her last three matches, and six of her last 10, since moving primarily to court two. She also has three wins over top 45 pairs, including Tulane's No. 26 duo at the number two position.

Bernier, a junior, is a three-time All-Academic selection who holds a 3.82 GPA in biomedical engineering. On the court, Bernier has posted a 17-6 overall dual record this season, including a 10-3 mark on court four, 6-2 on court five and 1-1 on court three. She is part of a tandem (along with Erika Zembyla) that is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation at the four position. She has won five of her last seven matches on court four and her last three matches on court five. In addition, she has recorded six wins over top 40 pairs this season, and three top 20 victories, including over Georgia State's No. 11 duo and Pepperdine and Stetson's No. 15 pair.

Bianchin, a senior, is a two-time All-Academic selection and boasts a 3.82 GPA in international relations. She is one half of one of the most dominating tandems in collegiate beach volleyball (along with Federica Frasca), with the Italian duo currently ranked No. 6 in the nation at the one position. Bianchin owns a stellar 19-5 overall dual record with all but three of their matches coming on court one. She is 17-4 on court one and 2-1 on court and has won four of her last five matches and are 10-3 in her last 13 matches. She has been part of six top 30 wins this season, including multiple wins over Stetson's No. 17-ranked pair on court one.

No. 9 FIU, the three-seed in this weekend's CCSA Tournament in Emerson, Georgia, begins pool play on April 19, at 10:30 a.m., against 10th-seeded UAB, before closing out the afternoon against the six-seed Florida Atlantic at 4:30 p.m.

The Panthers come into the weekend with a 14-10 mark on the season, 5-3 against CCSA opponents this year. The Panthers enter the tournament having won two of their last three duals, three of their last five, and nine of their last 15 to end the regular season.
