DALLAS (June 11, 2019) – Former FIU men's basketball player,
Elhadji Dieng (Mbour, Senegal) has been named by Conference USA as one of 14 recipients for the prestigious Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship, the league announced.

In his two years with the Panthers, Dieng played in 55 games, tallying a .471 field goal percentage. This past season, Dieng averaged 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds-per-game. He recorded a career-high 11 points in his final collegiate game, in the Blue & Gold, in the second round of the Collegeinsider.com Tournament at Green Bay on March 26.
Dieng, who posted a 3.66 GPA in liberal studies as an undergraduate, has completed the first term toward his postgraduate degree in recreation and management at FIU.
The 11th annual award is named in honor of Dr. Jim Castañeda who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
