"This season's schedule gives us the opportunity to compete against some of the top teams throughout the region," said head distance coach Jermaine Felix. "We will run in a number of different environments and courses, and should feel prepared when it comes time to execute at conference and regionals."

The Panthers will open up the season once again at the FAU Collegiate Cross Country Invitational on Friday, August 30, held at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton, home to last season's Conference USA Championships. The women will begin their 5K at 6:30 pm, while the men will start at 7:00, also with a 5K.

Two weeks later on September 14, FIU will venture up to Gainesville to compete in the Mountain Dew Invitational, held annually at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. The Panthers will get another bye week before running the UCF Invitational on Friday, September 27. The FIU women earned the victory at UCF last season, with Sherilene Gelderblom taking first place honors in the win. The men nearly brought home a victory as well, narrowly falling short in a tiebreaker for first.

"UF is a great place to run fast, and one of the bigger meets in the state of Florida," said Felix. "We're looking forward to UCF as well. It's a place we've run well and we're excited to compete there again."

FIU will conclude the regular season at the FSU Invitational, held at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

This year's Conference USA Championships will be held in Bowling Green, Kentucky on the morning of November 2nd, while the NCAA South Regional will take place two weeks later on November 15th, with the Panthers making a return appearance to Apalachee Regional Park.

The FIU women return five runners from last season, led by Sherilene Gelderblom, who earned Third-Team All-CUSA honors last season, and First-Team honors in 2017. The men will look to take a step forward with rising sophomore Eliseo Torres leading the way, who lowered his 5K PR by a minute during the outdoor season.
