MIAMI (Aug. 21, 2019) - A new season of tennis is upon FIU, as
head coach
Katarina Petrovic announced Wednesday the team's schedule for the upcoming fall season.
The Panthers will compete in several collegiate tournaments, including opening the year at the Hilton Head 15K ITF Tournament in Hilton Head, South Carolina on Sept. 22-26.
"Fall competition is mainly match preparation for our regular season," Petrovic said. "I am excited to see everyone compete."
The month of October opens up with a trip to Fort Myers, where the Panthers will make a run at the Bedford Cup (Oct. 4-6) for the sixth-straight year. Last year,
Basak Akbas was the victor of the No. 2 singles flight, while the duo of
Maryna Veksler and
Kamila Umarova won the No. 1 doubles flight of the competition. Moving to later in the month of October, FIU travels to Tallahassee for the ITA South East Regional Championship hosted by FSU on Oct. 18-21.
The fall slate concludes at home as the Panthers host the FIU Invitational on Nov.1-3, where they welcome Utah, Missouri and Iowa to the FIU Tennis Complex for three days of dual match action.
"The fall schedule is really going to help determine where everyone is at and it will ultimately help us see where the potential for good doubles partners stand," said Petrovic, "We have a good schedule lined up that will prepare us for the spring."
