Panther Debut Indoor Track Season at Blazer Invite

FIU to compete Saturday in Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Jan. 9, 2020) - The FIU track and field program began it's 2020 indoor campaign Friday, competing in the UAB Blazer Invitational.
 
The Panthers saw a number of strong performances, highlighted on the women's side by a second-place finish in the women's pole vault from Filippa Miller who vaulted 3.80m, finishing second of 22 athletes. On the men's side Queshun Riggins led the way for the Panthers in the jumps, earning third in the triple with a jump of 14.93m, and fifth in the long jump at 7.02m. Riggins placed fourth in the long jump at last year's Conference USA Indoor Championships.
 
Other strong performances for the FIU women included Trinavia Williams in the weight throw, finishing sixth with a throw of 17.94m, and Kiera Forde-Richards, who took sixth in the 60m. Corliss Holland placed seventh in the high jump in her FIU debut with a 1.64m jump, while Rayquel Berry began her sophomore campaign with a seventh-place finish as well in the long jump at 5.53m.
 
On the men's side, the Panthers saw success in the 60m, with Patston Stewart crossing the line in sixth in a field of 33 with a time of 6.88. Musa Rigaba began his FIU career with an eighth place effort in the 600m, while Kayden Cecil debuted in the pole vault in eighth as well going 4.55m.
