MIAMI (Jan. 13, 2021) - The FIU women's tennis doubles pair of Basak Akbas and Kamila Umarova were ranked as the 59th-best tandem in the nation on Wednesday, as the Oracle/ITA Preseason National Rankings were released in preparation of the 2021 spring season. 

The 2021 team preseason rankings will be released on Thursday. 

"I am very happy our ladies were recognized for their hard work," head coach Katarina Petrovic said. "Since coming to FIU in 2018, Kamila and Basak have bought into our doubles system and play with great energy." 

Akbas and Umarova earned eight wins last season as a duo and went undefeated in conference play before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tandem has earned All-Conference USA honors in doubles each season at FIU.
