MIAMI – FIU sophomore wide receiver Tyrese Chambers has been added to the Watch List for the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented to the top receiver in FBS college football, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced on Wednesday.

Chambers, who currently leads the nation with an average of 33.6 yards per reception and ranks fifth nationally in receiving yards (672) and 12th in touchdown catches (6), was one of two student-athletes added to the 63-player watch list, along with Alabama's Jamerson Williams.

Over the Panthers' initial six contests, the Baltimore, Md., native has posted a pair of performances with 175 receiving yards or more, scored at least one touchdown in five of six games and recorded at least one catch over 37 yards in each contest.

Chambers is the third player in FIU history to be named to the Biletnikoff Watch List joining T.Y. Hilton (2011) and Chandler Williams (2006).

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award.

Every Biletnikoff Award candidate must be an active collegiate football receiver (any player who receives a forward pass regardless of position) at an NCAA Division I (FBS) institution.  For instance, players at positions of tight end, wide receiver, slot back, running back, wingback and any other position in which a player may catch a legal forward pass are eligible to be selected.

Moreover, actual, on-field performance, not college or professional football potential, is the basis for Biletnikoff Award recognition.

The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted.

Recently, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation opened the 2021 FanVote.  Every fan may vote once daily on the Biletnikoff Award FanVote page. The aggregate fan tally will be counted as one official vote to determine semi-finalists (ten receivers), finalists (three receivers), and the winner.

The Panthers have a bye this week before returning to their home turf for a showdown against Western Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 23 in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff.  The game will be televised on ESPN+ and will also air on the FIU Radio Network.
