XC Ready for Conference USA Championships

Panthers to compete in Charlotte Saturday morning

CHARLOTTE (October 29, 201) - The FIU cross country program is set to compete in the Conference USA Championships, held at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C. 

The men's 8k is slated to begin at 10 a.m. ET followed by the women's 5k at 11 a.m. ET he awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of both races.

"We're excited to reach this point of the season," said head distance coach Jermaine Felix. "This is what we have been training for, and it will be a great opportunity for our runners to put up fast times and compete." 

The Panthers finished the regular season competing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Tallahassee. In the women's 6K, sophomore Andrea Loizidou set a personal best and led the Panthers with a time of 23:15. Leonarda Farkas also set a personal record, finishing in 23:33. Daira Deicmane and Lisa Adjouadi's personal bests placed them third and fourth, respectively, for FIU, while Delilah Ayan rounded out the scoring for the Panthers. 

On the men's side, Eliseo Torres once again paced the Panthers, crossing the finish line in 26:36. Freshman Chris Ivonnet was not far behind in an 8K, posting a personal record of 26:42. Roger ReyesJonathan Pineda, and Andoni Mercado also scored for FIU.
