JACKSONVILLE, Florida (April 30, 2021) - The FIU track and field team concluded the regular season at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville, Florida, on Friday evening with a number of strong performances across the board.

RESULTS

Desmond Dorceus' performance in the discus set a new FIU outdoor school record, with the sophomore's toss of 52.07m rewriting the FIU record book while earning him fifth place in a field of 28.

"Overall, a tremendous meet for our team," said head coach Ryan Heberling. "Everything is coming together at just the right moment.  Spirits are high as we set our sights towards the conference meet."

Rhema Otabor once again took the spotlight for the Panthers in the javelin with a mark of 53.47m to take the victory in a talented field of nationally ranked throwers. For Otabor, it was her fourth win of the season, following three first-place performances at the University of Miami meets this year.

Daira Deicmane's personal best of 2:12.03 in the 800 puts her at fifth all-time in FIU outdoor history.

Freshman Michaelle Valentin had an impressive day in the throws, setting personal bests in the discus and hammer. Her 47.06m in the discus is just outside the FIU all-time outdoor top five.

Eliseo Torres set another personal best in the men's 5000m, running 14:47 to place 10th of 44 competitors. In the 1500, Leonarda Farkas narrowly missed climbing to second all-time in FIU's outdoor record books, running a PR of 4:34.50. Elsewhere in the field events, Gabby Bryan set a personal best in the hammer throw, Bessline Verneau in the shot put, and Maika Cuenca in the javelin.
