MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (May 14, 2021) - The FIU track and field program wrapped up day two at the Conference USA Championships, with a number of impressive performances across the board that scored points for the Panthers heading into day three.
Eliseo Torres, in his first 10000m on the track in his career, ran 30:53, the second fastest mark in FIU school history, just 10 seconds behind DJ Lewis' record set in 1996 at the Penn Relays. Torres placed 11th in the race, and will also compete in the 5000m.
Emilie Christiansen, competing in just her second track meet of the season and third race as an FIU Panther, ran 36:36 in the 10000m, the fourth fastest time in FIU outdoor history. In the hepathlon,
Fabiola Declet earned four points for FIU with a fifth place finish, scoring 4818 points - fifth all time in the FIU record books.
Jason Rotger earned a point for FIU in the decathlon with an eighth-place finish - a personal best of 5720 points, narrowly missing cracking the FIU top-five in that event.
Action will continue Friday, beginning at 1 PM with the women's discus.
