MIAMI (May 20, 2021) - Four FIU Panthers have qualified to participate in the NCAA East Preliminaries, following a successful regular season and Conference USA Championships performance.
Queshun Riggins,
Desmond Dorceus,
Filippa Miller, and
Rhema Otabor will represent FIU at UNF's Hodges Stadium on May 26-29. The Panthers will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 9-12. The top 12 athletes from each event advance to nationals.
Watson-Riggins is coming off earning two gold medals at the Conference USA Championships, taking first in both the long jump and triple jump. Watson-Riggins comes in ranked 11th in the long jump and 26th in the triple jump. Watson-Riggins now holds the school record in the long jump, and is second on the all-time outdoor list in the triple jump.
Otabor, who smashed the FIU school record in the javelin earlier this year, enters ranked 10th in the event with a personal best of 54.19m. Otabor earned the gold at conference this past weekend as well.
Desmond Dorceus set a school record in the discus at conference, and stands at 31st heading into regionals with a seed mark of 54.09m.
Filippa Miller will enter at 46th in the pole vault, after a school record mark of 4.00m earlier this season at the USF Invite.
