MIAMI – The FIU football team had a total of five student-athletes selected to the 2022 Conference USA Preseason Watch List, which was released on Monday.
 
Representing the Panthers on the list, which includes five student-athletes from each of the conference's 11 member institutions, are Tyrese Chambers (WR), Rivaldo Fairweather (TE), Lyndell Hudson Jr. (OL), Davon Strickland (DL) and Lexington Joseph (KR).
 
Chambers established himself as one of the top deep threats in college football during a record-breaking campaign last season.  He ranked second nationally with an average of 23.9 yards per reception in 2021, while posting the top single season receiving-yard performance in FIU annals (1,074 yards).
 
Fairweather hauled in a total of 16 catches for 247 yards and a score during the 2021 season.  The athletic tight end averaged over 15 yards per reception and registered five catches of at least 20 yards.
 
Hudson is FIU's most experienced returning player on the offensive line after making 12 starts during his sophomore season, which was one of the most prolific offensive seasons in program annals.
 
Strickland ranked third among Panthers last season with 53 tackles.  He paced FIU defensively with three sacks and six tackles for loss.
 
Joseph is the Panthers' top returning rusher after posting 277 yards on 57 carries with a touchdown as a sophomore in 2021.  He averaged 4.8 yards per touch.  He also averaged 20.6 yards on 23 kick returns as a sophomore.
 
FIU football will usher in a new era this fall under head coach Mike MacIntyre, who was hired to take over the reins of the program in December.
 
The Panthers are slated to kick off the 2022 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 1 vs. Bryant University beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
