MIAMI – FIU football defensive back
Demetrius Hill has been selected to the 2022 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team, which was announced on Thursday afternoon.
Hill is the second FIU player to be selected to the prestigious squad in program history and the first since T.Y. Hilton was honored in 2008.
A panel of nationally prominent college football experts represented each of the FBS conferences along with independents in the selecting the team.
Both true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were considered for the team.
A graduate from Miami Springs High School, Hill racked up a total of 95 tackles in 2022 – which ranked third on the squad and sixth overall among Conference USA leaders. He tabbed double-digit stops in a total of four games, including a career-best 13, including his first career sack, in the regular-season finale vs. Middle Tennessee.
Hill also added 3.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles, including two in the Panthers' win over Louisiana Tech on Oct. 28. He notched the first interception of his collegiate career at Charlotte on Oct. 22.
Hill started all 12 games at safety for the Panthers in 2022 and was one of two current players from Conference USA selected to the FWAA Freshman All-America Team.
