MIAMI – The FIU football team will host Liberty for its annual homecoming contest on Saturday, Sept. 23 and will now play a total of four Saturday home games during the 2023 season, it was announced on Monday.
The Panthers' road game at New Mexico State in Las Cruces has also been moved to Wednesday, Oct. 4.
FIU and Liberty will be facing each other for just the second time in program history as well as the first time as Conference USA foes when the battle in Miami on Saturday, Sept. 23.
Four of the Panthers' six regular-season home games will now be played on a Saturday with FIU also hosting Maine (Sept. 2), North Texas (Sept. 9) and Western Kentucky (Nov. 25) at "The Cage" on college football's traditional gameday.
The Panthers will be traveling to Las Cruses for the second consecutive season when they take on the Aggies on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Overall, FIU and New Mexico State have met two previous times on the gridiron with the Panthers capturing a 21-7 road victory last season.
Liberty and New Mexico State are entering its first seasons as a member of Conference USA beginning in July 2023, along with Jacksonville State and Sam Houston.
The date of each game is being moved at the request of the Conference office and their multimedia partners.
Please note that all games are subject to date changes and some dates may move in the future in order to accommodate national television selections. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
