MIAMI – FIU football head coach
Mike MacIntyre has officially named
DeMarcus Van Dyke as the newest addition to the Panthers' coaching staff on Thursday. Van Dyke will have the title of assistant coach with his primary responsibility overseeing the cornerbacks.

DeMarcus Van Dyke) joining us," MacIntyre said. "He is well known in the Miami area having played at Monsignor Pace and the University of Miami before going on to play in with the Raiders, Atlanta and others in the NFL. I have gotten to know him really well during my one and a half years here and I am really excited to have him coaching our corners. He brings a lot of expertise in the defensive backfield as well as being a very respected recruiter in this area."
Van Dyke joins the Panthers after spending the past five seasons in various roles on the coaching staff at the University of Miami. He joined the Hurricanes' staff in 2018 as a defensive quality control analyst before being shifted to the role of assistant director of recruiting in 2019. He was promoted to cornerbacks coach for Miami in 2021.
He began his coaching career at ASA College in Miami as cornerbacks coach following a six-year playing career in the National Football League (NFL) which saw him play a total of 25 games for the Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers. He totaled 17 tackles, one interception and recovered a fumble during his professional career, which also saw him have stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons.
During his collegiate career, Van Dyke was a dual-sport athlete at the University of Miami as he competed in both football and track. He played a total of 51 games for the Hurricanes, with 21 starts. He compiled 80 tackles (including three for loss), 10 passes defended and three interceptions.
His time of 4.28-seconds in the 40-yard dash at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine tied for the fourth-fastest time (currently fifth-fastest) at the combine since electronic timing began in 1999.
Van Dyke was selected by the Oakland Raiders with the 81st overall pick (third round) of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Coming out of high school, Van Dyke was ranked as the No. 16 athlete and the No. 21 player in the state of Florida by Rivals.com. He was rated the No. 15 cornerback and the No. 7 player in the state by Scout.com. He was ranked as the No. 15 player in state by The Orlando Sentinel and the No. 25 player by St. Petersburg Times.
Van Dyke was a member of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100. He was also rated as the No. 11 player in the state and the No. 12 defensive back in the nation by SuperPrep.
