COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 22, 2023) - Freshmen javelin throwers
Blake Orr and
Cole Crkvenac placed second and third, respectively, at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic Friday evening.
Orr's mark of 62.24m was fourth all-time in FIU history. Kevin Bateman's mark of 71.54m at Georgia Tech in 2000 sits in first, followed by Crkvenac's 65.80m at the Hurricane Invitational earlier this year. Justin Johnson's 63.55m at the FAMU Relays in 1995 is third.
"We're really excited by what these two freshmen have been able to do early in their careers," said FIU head coach
Ryan Heberling. "They're now second and fourth in the FIU record books."
Crkvenac's mark from March 17 still has him ranked first in Conference USA, while Orr's personal best now puts him seventh in the league.
