MIAMI, Fla. – Head coach Jeremy Ballard and the FIU men's basketball program announced the signing of Jonathan Aybar to the program on Tuesday. Aybar signs with the Panthers after spending the past two seasons at North Florida.
 
The 6-foot-9 forward, and former ASUN All-Freshman selection with the Ospreys, joins the Panthers after averaging 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds through 30 games behind 54.8 percent shooting and 34.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Aybar reached double figures in eight contests, highlighted by a career-best 26-point, 10-rebound effort against Stetson on Jan. 2^nd.
 
Aybar averaged 6.9 points and 4.0 rebounds for the 2021-22 season, recording a pair of double-doubles, five double-digit scoring games and four double-digit rebounding contests, while leading the Ospreys and finishing second in the ASUN for blocked shots (28, 1.2/g) his freshman season in 2021. The Kissimme, Fla., native averaged 7.3 pointd on 48.4 percent shooting and finished third on UNF with 5.0 rebounds per game to earn ASUN All-Freshman recognition.
 
Additionally, Aybar holds a pair of ASUN Academic Honor Roll honors (2020-21, 2021-22) and his dad, Ramon Aybar, was also a member of the FIU men's basketball program from 1996-99.
 
Jonathan Aybar joins Okechukwu Okeke as part of FIU's new signees acquired through the transfer portal this spring.
