2024 Football Schedule Highlighted by Four Nationally-Televised October Games

Slate features six home games, opener at Big Ten member Indiana, renewal of Shula Bowl

2/1/2024 12:01:00 PM

MIAMI – The FIU football team will play a total of six home games, including a pair of Tuesday night home tilts and will renew its rivalry with Florida Atlantic, as part of the 2024 season schedule, which was announced by conference officials on Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers will also play a stretch of four straight nationally-televised weeknight games during the month of October with FIU beginning the stretch on the road at Liberty on Wednesday, Oct. 9,  before concluding at home on Tuesday, Oct. 29 vs. New Mexico State.

The upcoming 2024 campaign will mark the second season that all October CUSA matchups will be played on midweek evenings.  CUSA's broadcast partners will share the October weeknight football games on linear television across CBS Sports Network, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Other weeknight matchups for the Panthers include games at UTEP (Wednesday/Oct. 16) and vs. Sam Houston (Tuesday/Oct. 22) in Miami.

Conference USA will feature a 10-team alignment for the 2024 campaign with each team playing eight conference games, along with four non-league contests.

The Panthers will open the season with five consecutive Saturday games, beginning with a showdown at Big Ten member Indiana on August 31.

FIU will welcome Central Michigan into The Cage for the home opener on Sept. 7 and will also host Monmouth in its final home non-conference clash on Sept. 21.

In the week between those home games, the Panthers will travel north to Palm Beach County to meet Florida Atlantic in a renewal of the Shula Bowl.  The programs have met each season dating back to 2002 (21 years) with the exception of last season after the Owls shifted from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference.

The Panthers will kick off Conference USA play at home vs. Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Sept. 28.  It will mark the second consecutive season that FIU has opened league play against the Bulldogs.

FIU will travel to face Jacksonville State (Saturday, Nov.16) and Kennesaw State (Nov. 23) before closing out the regular season slate at home against Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 30.

The 2024 schedule also features a pair of bye weeks, which will see the Panthers idle during Week Six (Oct. 5) and Week 11 (Nov. 9).

The 2024 CUSA alignment will feature 10 teams with no divisions. FIU, Jacksonville State, newcomer Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, UTEP and WKU comprise Conference USA for the 2024 football season.

The 20th annual Conference USA Championship Game will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network (kickoff time will be announced at a later date).

Please note that all games are subject to date changes and some dates may move in the future in order to accommodate national television selections.  A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
