MIAMI — FIU women's tennis student-athletes Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Valery Gynina were both recognized as Conference USA's (CUSA) Athletes of the Week, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Khairutdinova was named the Singles Athlete of the Week by Conference USA while her and doubles partner Gynina earned Doubles Athletes of the Week for the second-straight week.
Khairutdinova and Gynina both played key roles in FIU's 4-0 win over 23rd-ranked Miami on Saturday. This duo secured the doubles point for FIU with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles over their opponents from Miami.
Khairutdinova was equally as impactful in singles, notching a 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 comeback victory at the top singles spot. Her win clinched the match for FIU, which defeated Miami for the first time since 2001 and second time in program history.
UP NEXT
FIU will participate in the ITA Kick-off next weekend in Gainesville, Fla., Jan. 25-26.
