MIAMI — FIU track and field's Arndis Oskarsdottir and Michaelle Valentin both notched weekly awards from Conference USA (CUSA), as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Oskarsdottir earned Freshman of the Week after a strong showing in the javelin to begin the outdoor season. Valentin picked up her fourth Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season after a record-breaking performance in the hammer throw.
Both Panthers shined at the outdoor season-opening Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables this past weekend. Oskarsdottir won the women's javelin with a throw of 51.07 meters, a mark which is third-best all-time at FIU and currently ninth-best in all of the NCAA.
Valentin continues to add to her decorated FIU career as she broke her own school record and Haitian National record with a hammer throw of 67.51 meters. She is the current NCAA leader in the event and ranks seventh in the discus after her meet-winning mark of 57.54 meters. The Apopka, Fla. native also recorded her best-ever mark in the shot put, throwing 13.5 meters.
