MIAMI — FIU track and field's Cole Crkvenac and Arndis Oskarsdottir were honored as Conference USA (CUSA) Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Crkvenac earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week while Oskarsdottir notched her second Freshman of the Week Honor of the outdoor season. Both javelin throwers produced strong showings at the Pepsi Florida Relays over the weekend, earning them recognition as some of the league's best for the week.
With a mark of 70.28, Crkvenac placed seventh at the Florida Relays in men's javelin, surpassing student-athletes from Nebraska, South Carolina, Florida, Pitt, Texas A&M and more. His mark from this past weekend ranks first in CUSA and 17th-nationally.
Oskarsdottir earns her second Conference USA weekly honor of the outdoor season after her performance at the Florida Relays. She threw a personal best of 51.97 meters in women's javelin, placing sixth. The freshman Panther defeated competitors from teams such as Nebraska, Georgia, Texas A&M and Florida. Oskarsdottir ranks first in the conference and 19th in the nation (third in the nation among freshmen).
