MIAMI — FIU football's Keyone Jenkins added another prestigious honor to his resume on Monday afternoon, earning a selection to the 2025 Walter Camp Player of the Year Preseason Watchlist.

The junior quarterback was tabbed with this honor, of which is one of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) awards given to the nation's top player. Only 45 total players across the 133 FBS programs appear on this list and Jenkins is one of 21 quarterbacks to receive this accolade. Jenkins is also one of 12 players from the Group of Five conferences to be recognized with this distinction and one of two players from Conference USA (CUSA), joining LIberty's Vaughn Blue.

The Opa-Locka, Fla. native is firmly on the national radar this preseason, having already been named the 2025 CUSA Offensive Player of the Year along with receiving a nod on the Maxwell Award Watchlist. In 2024, Jenkins showed his ability as a passer with 22 touchdowns as a true sophomore, the second-most in a single season in program history.

He finished his second season as a starter with 2,457 passing yards and 188 completions, completing 62 percent of his throws. Jenkins ranked first in CUSA in 2024 in passing efficiency and 19th-nationally. The Miami Central prep is surging up the all-time career charts at FIU as well, currently sitting sixth in career passing yards (4,971) and completions (382) and fifth in passing touchdowns (33).

"We are proud to continue the great work of Walter Camp and recognize the best college football players in the nation," Foundation president John Barbarotta said. "This watch list is a great start to what is shaping up to be another exciting year of college football."

The 2025 Player of Year watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in early November, and three finalists will be announced in early December. The 2025 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 133 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on ESPN's College Football Awards Show on December 12.

Earlier this summer, the Foundation announced its 2025 preseason All-American teams. Walter Camp is the nation's oldest and most prestigious collegiate football All-America team and was first selected in 1889.

ABOUT THE WALTER CAMP
Considered the "Father of American Football," Walter Camp introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side in 1880.

Nine years later, Mr. Camp, then the Yale University head coach, selected the first-ever college football All-America team. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team. The Walter Camp Foundation is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses college football's most prestigious awards. The NCFAA's 25 awards have honored more than 950 recipients since 1935. Visit NCFAA.org for more information.
