Biography

One of five baseball student-athletes make the 2007 Fall Dean’s List with a grade-point average above 3.5...member of the 2006-07 and 2004-05 Sun Belt Commissioner’s List for maintaining a GPA above 3.5 for the school year...returns as the team’s only three-year letterwinner...is on pace to appear on FIU’s all-time career lists with 163 games played, 580 at-bats, 180 hits, 29 doubles and 251 total bases.

 

2007: Named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List for maintaining a grade point average above 3.5 for the 2006-07 academic year...hit .285 and proved to be the toughest Golden Panther to strikeout on the season, going down on strikes 18 times in 214 at-bats...never struck out more than once in a game the entire season...scored 43 runs and hit eight doubles, two triples and four home runs with 37 RBI...successful stealing on 9-of-15 attempts and laid down six sacrifice bunts...walked 22 times and started 53 of the 54 games he played in...started 30 games at shortstop and 23 games at second base...posted 17 multi-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games, including three RBI against Central Florida (2/3), Florida A&M (5/8) and at Florida Atlantic (5/17)...hit .250 (3-for-12) against Florida Atlantic (5/17-19), but drove in four runs with two home runs in the series...hit a solo home run in the second inning of the series finale...opened the FAU series going 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the second inning...went 3-for-8 (.375) in two games against Florida A&M (5/7-8), driving in three runs in the second game...hit .538 (7-for-13) against South Alabama (5/4-6)...tied a season high with three hits in the second game of the series and opened the series going 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI...scored two runs against New Orleans (4/28) and collected two hits in the series-opening win against the Privateers (4/27)...went 3-for-14 in the Arkansas-Little Rock (4/6-7) series...doubled twice in six at-bats in the second game of the series...opened the series going 1-for-5 with a run scored...hit .375 (3-for-8) in two games against Louisiana at Monroe (4/13-14)...drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning against Miami (4/11)...hit .231 (3-for-13) in the Arkansas State series (4/6-7)...hit a RBI single in the seventh inning against Miami (4/4)...scored three runs and hit .250 (3-for-12) against Louisiana-Lafayette (3/30-4/1)...crossed the plate twice in the series finale against the Ragin’ Cajuns, including once in a pivotal seventh-inning rally...scored a season-high three times against Harvard (3/28) and went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI...collected a hit and scored in each game of the Troy (3/23-25) series...hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning of the 9-1 win in the second game of the series...went 2-for-12 against Western Kentucky (3/16-18)...hit a RBI single in the fourth inning of the season finale...came off the bench to go 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk against Manhattan (3/14)...went 1-for-12 against Rutgers (3/9-11) after going 1-for-3 with a RBI double in the second inning in the series opener... doubled and scored a run against Boston College (3/6)...went 5-for-14 (.357) with four RBI and four runs scored against Wagner (3/2-4)...doubled, walked twice and went 2-for-4 in the third game of the series...scored twice in the second game of the series...opened the Wagner series going 2-for-5 with a run scored...collected five hits in four games against Rhode Island (2/23-25) and walked a career-high three times in the first game of the Feb. 24 doubleheader...hit .700 (7-for-10) with a home run, five RBI and four runs scored...went 3-for-3 in the series finale with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored...walked a career-high three times and drove in two runs in the second game of the series...opened the series going 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored...played in the series opener and finale against Missouri (2/9, 11)...went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in the series finale...went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the series opener...opened the season going 1-for-3 at Central Florida (2/3) with a three-run triple in the sixth inning that provided the game-winning score in the 5-3 win.

 

2006: Started 57 games, including 33 at second base and 24 games at shortstop...had a hit in 22 of the last 31 games...posted 22 multi-hit and 12 multiple-RBI games...finished sixth on the team with a .309 average and had 41 runs, 12 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 37 RBI...set a career-high with four hits against FAU (5/9)... hit .545 in the three-game series against Western Kentucky (5/12-14) with five RBI and two runs scored...went 2-for-2 with two runs scored with a career-high five RBI against Rutgers (3/11)...hit .325 against Sun Belt Conference foes with 12 extra-base hits...team was 4-0 when he hits a home run.

 

2005: Emerged as one of the top hitters in the FIU lineup, finishing third in batting average (.346)...hit at a .358 clip against Sun Belt Conference foes, including base hits in 21 of 24 league games...reached base in 44 of his 51 games en route to a .399 on-base percentage...recorded a hit in 10 of the last 11 games...laid down a team-high 11 sacrifice bunts ...also led the team with three triples...defensively, made six assists in back-to-back games against Wagner (3/7) and La Salle (3/8) and had five against Lafayette (3/15), New Orleans (4/2), Savannah State (4/29) and Western Kentucky (5/13, 5/15)...had 15 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI contests.

 

Prior to FIU: Rated by Baseball America as the 69th best prep middle Infielder in the nation, coming out of Summit Christian HS...scored 36 runs, while hitting .442 with 25 RBI and 16 stolen bases as a senior...defensively, had only two errors in 108 chances...served as team co-captain and earned Class 1A all-state honors as a senior...a three-year Honor Roll and National Honor Society member...selected to Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

 

Personal: Born May 31, 1986...son of Raul and Susan Marie Lozano...great uncle Eloy Alen was a member of the Cuban National Team and Boston Red Sox organization...a hospitatlity management major.
