Biography

2006: Second team All-Sun Belt selection...rated as the No. 6 prospect in the Virginia Valley League by Baseball America...along with Nick Cadena was the only Golden Panther to play in all 60 games...led the team in several offensive categories, including RBI (71), triples (4) and total bases (134)...his 71 RBI were the most by a Golden Panther since Brad Eldred in 2002 and were the third-highest single-season total in school history...was second on the team with 54 runs scored and 82 hits...posted a .565 slugging percentage and swiped 12 bases...ranked third in the conference in RBI and 36th nationally with an average of 1.18 RBI per game...drove in a run in nine-straight games (3/10-3/19)...hit .461 (6-for-13) in the weekend against Western Kentucky (5/12-5/14), .417 (5-for-12) against New Orleans (3/31-4/2) and Middle Tennessee (5/5-5/7)...took a career-long 12-game hitting streak into the SBC Tournament.

2005: Finished second on the team with a .351 batting average, including a .371 clip against Sun Belt Conference foes...recorded 16 multi-hit games and four multi-RBI efforts...one of three Golden Panthers with a game-high four RBI in the 23-3 rout of Savannah State (5/1)...came off the bench for a walk off two out, two-RBI single up the middle to give FIU a crucial come-from-behind 4-3 win clinching a crucial series victory over Sun Belt Conference foe Western Kentucky (5/15)...had a season-high three stolen bases against Harvard (3/29) and two against Wagner (3/7) and Manhattan (3/19)...had a game-winning RBI single that ricocheted off the leg of St. John’s and Boston Red Sox first-round draft pick Craig Hansen in the Golden Panthers’ 9-8 win (2/25)...went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a double against Temple (3/5)...had four different, four-game hitting streaks throughout the season...started 17 games in both left field and as a designated hitter.

Prior to FIU: Earned All-Broward honors from The Miami Herald as a senior after hitting .483 with four home runs and 25 RBI...their same season, earned team MVP recognition as a senior...team was 2003 Class 4A state champion and was district and regional runner-up in 2004

Personal: Born September 26, 1985...son of Doug and Kim McOwen...father, Doug, was an All-American swimmer at the University of Wisconsin...named to the 2005-06 Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll...an English major with an interest in literary theory.
