Biography

One of 19 baseball student-athletes to make the 2007 Fall Honor Roll with a grade-point average above 3.0.

 

2007: Started 40 of the 52 games he played in and hit .307 with 11 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 24 RBI...proved to be one of the toughest players on the team to strikeout, only 16 times in 163 at bats...scored 24 runs and posted a .454 slugging percentage and .352 on-base percentage...walked 13 times and hit three sacrifice flies...went 1-for-10 in final series of the season against Florida Atlantic (5/17-19)...had one of his best games of the season against Middle Tennessee (5/12), going 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBI...went 1-for-3 with a walk against Florida A&M (5/7)...was 3-for-12 with a RBI against South Alabama (5/4-6)...went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the series finale...opened the USA series with a run scored, RBI and a double...went 1-for-11 with a RBI in the New Orleans series (4/27-29)...5-of-13 (.385) against Arkansas-Little Rock (4/20-22) with three doubles...went 1-for-6 in two games against Louisiana at Monroe (4/13-14)...went 1-for-4 with a RBI singe against Miami (4/11)...hit .333 (3-for-9) at Arkansas State (4/6-7)...homered, tripled and drove in two runs to lead FIU to a 5-3 win in the series opener against ASU...went 1-for-5 with a run scored and RBI double in the seventh inning at Miami (4/4)...hit .300 (3-for-10) in the Lafayette series (3/30-4/1)...tripled and hit two sacrifice flies in the series finale, including what turned out to be the game-winning run in the seventh inning of the 14-13 win...went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the 13-6 win against Harvard (3/28)...went 3-for-10 with three runs scored and two RBI in the Troy series (3/23-25)...had his best series of the season against Western Kentucky (3/16-18), going 6-for-11 (.545)...went 3-for-4 in the series opener with a double and run scored...drove in two runs in the series finale...went 1-for-5 against Manhattan (3/14)...hit .600 (3-for-5) in the Rutgers series (3/9-11), including hits in two pinch-hit appearances...delivered a pinch-hit single in the series finale before he was replaced on the base paths by Chris Dunn, who scored the game-winning run...capped a four-run rally in the second game of the series with a pinch-hit, two-run home run in the seventh inning of the 4-2 win...drove in a career-high three RBI against Wagner (3/3)...went 2-for-10 in a four-game series against Rhode Island (2/23-25)...drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 in the second game of a doubleheader against URI (2/24), including the game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning of the 12-11 win...went 3-for-6 in a doubleheader against Florida A&M (2/17), starting the second game...went 1-for-7 in the Missouri series (2/9-11), earning his first career start in the second game...saw his first action as a Golden Panther against Central Florida (2/3-4)...collected his first hit, a double in the seventh inning against the Knights.

 

Prior to FIU: Played for two seasons at Miami Dade College, earning all-state honors both years...batted .315 with eight doubles, a home run and 25 RBI his sophomore season...hit .396 with nine doubles, four triples, five home runs and 33 RBI as a freshman...played one year of baseball at Miami Springs HS for Alex Tamango after moving to the United States from Cuba...was team captain and Offensive Player of the Year after hitting .402 with three home runs, 18 RBI and 23 runs.

 

Personal: Born April 30, 1985...son of Ramiro and Aurora Fuentes...has a younger sister...played for Team Cuba in the 1999 Little League World Series in Venezuela...majoring in business management.
