Biography

2008 (Junior): Appeared in three contests... versatile offensive lineman who had many practice reps with the first-team offense.

2007 (Sophomore): Did not play in any games while recovering from injury...played on the scout team as he adjusted to the move from defense to offense.

2006 (Redshirt Freshman): Another true freshman who got some early looks at defensive tackle...saw action off the bench in the season opener at Middle Tennessee (8/31) and at Maryland (9/23), credited with an assisted tackle in each game...moved to an offensive lineman spot in spring practice.

Coral Gables High School: Played four years of football for coach Joe Montoya and three seasons of track and field...played only five games as a senior with 29 tackles and five sacks after suffering a knee injury...named Defensive Lineman of the Year and earned the Big Man Running Award as a junior after recording 45 tackles, nine sacks and involved in three blocked punts that resulted in touchdowns...recognized as Most Improved Defensive Player as a sophomore.

Personal: Born May 14, 1987...chose FIU over interest shown by North Carolina State, Rutgers and Kansas State...son of Carlos and Marta Abril...hospitality management major.
