Biography

Junior (2006): Finished the 2006 season with 599 career kills, which ranks 10th on FIU's career list... Broke the school record for hitting percentage in a single match after hitting at a .846 clip (11 kills, no errors, 13 attempts) in the Sun Belt quarterfinals against Arkansas State (11/16)... Posted a career-high 10 blocks against Oral Roberts (9/1), which also tied the team season-high... Also set a career- and team season-high with six aces against Stetson (8/26)... Totaled 97 block assists on the year, which ranks sixth all-time on the school's single-season list... Came up with nine blocks in a three-game match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9/9), which is a single-game school rally scoring era record... Recorded a pair of double-doubles, giving her 12 for her career... First came with 10 kills and 10 blocks in the game against Oral Roberts while the second came a week later against Boise State (9/8) with season-highs 15 kills and 10 digs... One of two players to start in all 32 matches.

 

Sophomore (2005): Played 103 games in 28 matches, including 23 starts... Named Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year as the league's top transfer, becoming just the second Golden Panther to ever win that award (Nirvana Kos - 2000)... Also became the third from FIU to capture All-Sun Belt honors, along with Kos (first-team: 2000 & 2001) and Jessica Andreolas (first-team: 1999), after being selected to the league's second team... Led the team with 389 kills (3.78 per game) and 44 service aces (0.43 per game)... Her 3.78 kills per game ranked fifth in the Sun Belt, while the 0.43 aces per game was sixth... In Sun Belt play, her team-best 4.08 kills per game was also fifth, while her 0.49 aces per game were second only to teammate Mariana Drumeva... Also averaged 2.12 digs per game, which was tied for fourth on the team, and 0.50 blocks per game, which was fifth... A consistent attacking threat, posted double-digit kills in a team-high 24 of her 28 matches played and ended the season with 10-straight two-digit tallies... Tied Polish teammate Anna Dmowska with three 20-plus kill matches... Also collected a team-best 10 double-doubles... Pounded a career- and team-season-high 26 kills against East Tennessee State (11/6)... Served up a career-high five aces in a 3-0 victory over South Alabama (10/14)... Totaled eight blocks (1 solo), FIU's second-best blocking performance of the season, in a five-game win over Stetson (8/26)... Hit at a .400 clip (13-1-30) in that victory over the Hatters, which was one of six times a Golden Panther reached the .400 mark... Came up one kill short of entering FIU's top 10 all-time single season list.

 

Dodge City Community College (2004): A 2004 Second-Team NJCAA Division II All-American as a freshman... Named to the 2004 NJCAA Women's Division II Volleyball National Championship All-Tournament Team after leading the Conquistadors to the championship game... Also selected to the NJCAA Division II All-Region VI-District J First-Team... Received the DCCC's President's Academic Award after finishing with a 4.0 GPA.

 

Prior to Dodge City: High school champion of the Slaski Region in 1999 and 2000... Honored with Distinction for Good Grades in 1999... Played for club team Mosir Mosm Tychy, winning the Slask Region championship in 1998 and finishing runner-up in the Poland Championship in 1997 and 1998... Garnered MVP performances in the Youngsters-International Tournament in Germany in 1997, the Youngsters-Championship of Poland in 1998 and the Juniors-Region Championship in 1999. 

 

Personal: Born January 5, 1983, in Tychy, Poland... Daughter of Leszek Szymanski and Barbara Szymanska... Has one brother, Jarek (25), and one sister, Karolina (12)... Enjoys playing tennis and beach volleyball... Chose FIU over interest from Maryland, Long Island and South Alabama... Honor Roll student majoring in computer science with aspirations to play professional volleyball in Europe after college.
