@FIUWBB Alexis Gordon Named to C-USA All-Freshman Team

IRVING, Texas (March 5, 2017) -- Following the completion of the regular season, FIU freshman guard Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian) was today named to the 2017 Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Freshman Team. The team is voted on by the league's head coaches and media members from outlets that cover each school.

"We are all very excited for Lex," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "All season long, she was asked to do a number of things for us, including playing a large amount of minutes and scoring. She is very deserving of this award, but it is also a testament to the support of her teammates."

Gordon was the highest-scoring freshman among several talented newcomers on the FIU squad. She averaged 9.1 points and led the team with 61 made three-point baskets for the season. Her 31.9-minutes-per-game average was second-most on the squad.

She was ninth overall among all C-USA players with an average of 2.1 threes made per game. In C-USA games only, she was tied for 13th, with 1.7 per game.

Gordon was one of four Panthers to play in every game, and her 26 starts were tied for second-most on the team.

Gordon scored a season-high 21 points when she hit a team-season-high six three-point field goals in a home loss to Georgetown on November 22. It was her first-career start and she played 39 minutes, a season-high for a regulation game.

In FIU's triple-overtime win over UTEP, Gordon played 52 minutes, scoring 15 points including a 4-for-8 day behind the arc.

Gordon joins Nikolina Todorovic in selection to an end-of-season conference honor. Todorovic was selected to the In-Touch Credit Union 2017 Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Academic Team earlier in the week.
