FIU drops to Mississippi State in double overtime

FIU almost comes up with its first victory of the young season, falling in double overtime to Mississippi State, 1-0, in Starkville, Miss.

Elke D'Hollander's penalty kick goal in the third minute of double overtime gave the Bulldogs (3-0-1) the win over the Golden Panthers (0-3).

The game had 40 fouls and four yellow cards, as Mississippi State outshot FIU 15-6 in the contest. Bulldog goalkeeper Luisa Marzotto recorded the shutout. FIU's Juliana Gomez was in goal the entire contest for the second straight game and played well, just letting the goal in the 103rd minute.

Charissa Gingerich had four shots on the game, three on goal and Janet Ligouri kicked two shots on goal.

FIU will return to action on Friday evening when they host Columbia in its home opener at University Park.
